The first step to take in your design/build project should be getting to know your designer. Simply call or email the contractor of your choice and set up an in-home consultation. Prior to meeting, it is a good day to start making a wish list. This wish list should answer what your needs, wants, dreams and possible limitations are and will serve as a starting point for your meeting.
The first priority of your visit is to gain a full understanding of your needs for your space. Review your wish list and ask additional, appropriate questions. How will you use the space? How would you like your space to grow with you in the future? Will you be reusing furniture?
After your in-home consultation, you will have a good understanding of your design priorities and budget. Then, your contractor will prepare a computer drawing of your existing floor plan rendering of your space. The CAD system will show your exact layout, creating a precise drawing of where all structural and mechanical elements will be. This is the foundation that your team will use to begin your new design.
You will have several detailed plans that incorporate your wish list presented to you. Also, take this opportunity to apply your creativity and experience, to show additional options you may never have considered. After receiving your feedback, your best ideas are selected to create the perfect plan. With input gathered from this meeting, a 3D rendering is created of your project that will truly bring it to life. Your budget is also reviewed ensuring we are designing a space that meets your needs and expectations.
Next step is to review the 3D renderings of your project, final
construction drawings & a menu of pricing options. Your contractor then picks materials, color schemes and any additional details necessary for your project and shares them with you. The drawings illustrate full elevations and complete construction notes. You also see which design elements will impact the cost of the project. Here you truly see the design and budget come together. Your designer will work with you to select a construction start date and sign formal contracts. Then, we are ready to start construction.
Your project can be completed between 4 and 16 weeks, depending on the scope and complexity of the work required. Rest assured that you will receive a detailed construction calendar and will be provided with weekly construction updates throughout the project.
